Introduction:
On this day of Vaisakhi, I didn’t want to write about Khalsa Panth or Guru Gobind Singh Ji because everybody would write about it but I want to write about the Contribution of Sikhs (Sons of Guru Ji) in India during, before & after the independence.
Religious Aspect:
I feel so blessed to born in a Sikh family & we Sikhs do not follow our Gurus like teachers. We consider them as our ten holy fathers & we see their spirit in Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Guru ji gave strength to our men/women & they became lions by heart. Guru ji says that a Khalsa Sikh is enough to fight in front of one hundred thousand. It is estimated that Sikhs are approximately 30 million worldwide that comes to less then 0.40% of the world population & more then Two Thirds Sikhs are in India that is 1.45-1.70% (because census are due) of the total Indian population.
Contribution:
If we see the contribution of Sikhs in Indian independence 91 Sikhs were hanged to death out of a total of 121. If we see the life imprisonments, 2147 were Sikhs among 2646 total. In Jallianwala Bagh Massacre held on 13 April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab 799 were Sikhs among a total of 1300 who were killed. 67 out of total 113 in Budge Budge Ghat Firing, Kolkatta. In the 1800s during the Naamdhari Kooka Moment (91 Sikhs) & on 30 December 1920 during the Akali moment(500 Sikhs), all were Sikhs & were killed. Although the East India Company started in 1612 & the Company Rule (British Rule) started in other parts of India was in 1757 & the Britishers were unable to take over Punjab Province which was under the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh & after his death in 1839, Sikh Empire collapsed & lost in the Second Anglo Sikh War. Britishers took control over the whole of India in 1858.
Other parts of India were under British rule for 200 years but Sikh Empire was under British rule for 90-100 years, yet in the partition major part of Punjab went to Pakistan & you see their contribution to independence.
In the First & Second, World War the total number of Sikh soldiers who sacrificed on the battlefields were 83,003 & approximately 1,09,045 were wounded.
During the Battle of Saragarhi on 12 September 1897, only 21 Sikhs fought & got killed against 12000-24000 Afghan Tribesmen & 1400 were killed.

After Independence:
In The Indo Pak war in 1965, a Sikh was second in command of the Indian Army named Lt. Gen. Harbaksh Singh & a Sikh was the chief of the Air Staff named Air Marshall Arjan Singh.
The Indo Pak war 1971 was led by a Sikh Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Arora, capturing more than 90000 army men of Pakistan prisoners of war in one day.
Sikhs also played a vital role in Sino-Indian War or Indo China war 1962, Kargil War 1999 & also at the Indo Pak & Indo China borders.

SANDDY MUNDRA SPEAKS:
If we look at the percentage of the Indian Army, more than 15% are Sikhs And sometimes I wonder, Sikhs are not even 2% of the Indian population & yet their contribution is more than 70% in the Indian independence & 15% are in the Indian Army, ready to sacrifice. Although they have lost so much in 1947 & 1984 yet they are always ready to sacrifice for their motherland.
I respect & salute all the army men & their families worldwide for the sacrifice & problems they face during the service but never complain.

I think if the Sikh contribution as tax payer is available in India, it would be a vital percentage of total tax collection as compared to percent population in this country. Good information, keep going. Best of luck.
Thank you so much bhaaji.
I will keep trying for more information in future too.
